Proposed Multi Sport Facility for Maiden City Academy

Opposite Lisneal College, Crescent Link Road, Derry/ Londonderry

This online consultation aims to inform the local community and interested parties of a proposal to develop a multi sport facility opposite Lisneal College at Crescent Link Road, Derry/ Londonderry and seeks to gather comments and suggestions on the proposal.

Your feedback will help to inform the design process & subsequent planning application which will be made to Derry & Strabane Council in late 2020/ early 2021.

All comments must be received by Friday 27th November 2020.

This will be Phase 2 of development at the lands adjacent Lisneal College for Maiden City Academy & the facility will include educational spaces, conferencing room, community space, changing facilities,

wellbeing facilities, dormitories, fitness suite & dance studio, plus a full-size indoor pitch/ multi-sport facility with climbing wall, all with associated ancillary spaces.

It will also see delivery of external landscaping and spectator areas whilst utilising existing access & car parking with additional overflow parking available at Lisneal College.

About Maiden City Academy

Maiden City Soccer is a non profit -cross community – cross border, sports development, charitable , organisation.

They introduce children from 4 years of age to the world of sport & all programmes are designed to challenge in a fun way.

As a local community football organisation, Maiden City Academy have been serving the North west and beyond for over 20 years.

Maiden City Academy pride themselves on creating friendships, building confidence, sustaining relationships, and delivering experiences which will last a life time.

Currently Maiden City Academy currently offers a huge range of sporting related recourses:

  • Currently 18 teams in total us ethe facilities & receive coaching & mentorship from Maiden City Academy Project
  • Schools programme – 20 local schools/ up to 600 boys & girls
  • After schools programme (In The Community) – Up to 200 children week, main core of these sessions delivered at Lisneal College
  • Grassroots teams – 5 teams at u7 to u11
  • Community teams – 2 teams currently u12 and u16
  • Academy teams – 6 teams at u12 to u18
  • Adult teams – 2 teams (NI Intermediate league/ Sat Morning League)

Employees & Volunteers currently include:

  • 5 full time staff in daily work
  • 6 part time staff in daily work
  • 32 coaching volunteers
  • 4 office staff volunteers
  • The Academy have their own Chaplain & Child Behavioural Consultant

The Academy have extensive support links with the Education Authority, The English Premier League, League Managers Association & Foyle International.

Delivery of the multi sport facility will see the employment base expand & enable delivery of an even more diverse range of high quality sporting activities.

Lisneal College

The academy have been resident at Lisneal school facilities since the schools opening and have invested ten’s of thousands of capital into school hire.

As demand for their services increase & the relationship with Lisneal College continues to develop, both parties have realised the need for a stand alone multi sport facility which will enable delivery of their services more effectively.

The facility will offer young people in the North West a fantastic resource, which will help them to grown and develop with the physical & emotional support of a world-class team behind them.
