So... how do you regularise and explain this, when for decades building control regulations have driven and pushed towards wood burning stoves?www.facebook.com/share/1E6pj7JjuU/On 22 January 2026, Defra, working with the Devolved Governments, launched a UK wide public consultation on domestic solid fuel burning, seeking views on further measures to reduce fine particulate matter (PM2.5) and smoke emissions from wood and other solid fuels. The consultation includes proposals on:• New emission limits for solid fuel appliances, including wood burning stoves• New mandatory labelling for solid fuel appliances and fuels, including health impact informationThe consultation runs from 22 January to 19 March 2026. 🌍✨ Delighted to be named a Finalist – Climate Champion, Mid Ulster Council Area ✨🌍We are incredibly proud that Manor Architects has been recognised as a finalist in the Climate Champion category within the Mid Ulster District Council area, the largest Council district in Northern Ireland and, without doubt, one of the most innovative.Mid Ulster is an extraordinary place.Grounded in Tyrone and stretching across a district renowned for its engineering excellence, fabrication expertise and manufacturing strength, it is home to one of the highest concentrations of indigenous, export-driven companies anywhere in the UK and Ireland. Innovation here is not a buzzword — it is embedded in the DNA of the region. At Manor Architects, climate action was never a marketing strategy, it was simply how we worked.Long before climate change became central to public policy, we were:Designing with biophilic principles to enhance wellbeing and reconnect people with nature.Embedding low-energy thinking into our projects.Actively addressing embodied carbon in materials and construction.Working towards and achieving carbon-zero operations as a practice. Our portfolio spans sectors many wouldn’t traditionally associate with architectural climate leadership. We have delivered and assessed state-of-the-art facilities including:- Large-scale anaerobic digestion plants- Oil and vegetable oil recycling facilities- Advanced recycling and waste management plants- Fabrication and engineering facilitiesThese projects sit at the intersection of climate, infrastructure, agriculture and industry, sectors that are critical to Northern Ireland’s future.People don’t always immediately associate architectural practices with climate leadership. Yet the built environment and construction industry are among the largest contributors to carbon emissions globally. The decisions made at design stage, materials, orientation, energy strategy, adaptability — have generational consequences. Our strength lies in our diversity of portfolio. Working across conservation, healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, manufacturing and waste management allows us to see connections others might not. That cross-sector perspective enables innovation that is practical, deliverable and commercially grounded. We often speak about legacy. But climate responsibility is not just about legacy projects or landmark announcements. It is about the day-to-day decisions:The specification of materialsThe choice to retrofit rather than demolishThe way we advise a clientThe long-term thinking we embed into short-term budgets. This recognition reflects not a single initiative, but a culture, grounded in our genuine love for Northern Ireland, its people, its ingenuity and its businesses. We are proud to operate in Mid Ulster. We are proud to contribute to its innovation economy. And we are proud that climate responsibility is simply part of who we are. 🌱 ...
